Systemic Constellations

Family Constellations

Family Constellations

Family constellations is a powerful method to help free yourself from the damaging repetitive patterns, behaviours and emotions that are limiting your life in some way today which you have unconsciously taken on from your family system

While we receive lots of good things from our families, we also carry burdens, emotions, belief and traumas that inhibit our potential to make most of ourselves and our relationships.

This experiential process reaches the underlying impulses, unresolved events and unprocessed emotions that may be holding you back that you have inherited from your family system that have been passed down through the generations.

This approach helps to transform your relationships with your family, work, vitality, money and life by releasing you from the entanglements that are holding you back.

Why do Constellations?

  • Do you feel stuck in some area of your life?
  • Do you feel burdened or weighed down?
  • Do you notice repeating limiting patterns showing up in your experiences?
  • Do you have relationship, money, work issues?
  • Do you feel you are not living your life fully?

Benefits:

  • Feel strengthened and supported
  • See the hidden dynamics of your family system which are holding you back
  • Free yourself from these entanglements and burdens
  • Gain clarity on a way forward in your life or relationships
  • Develop empathy, compassion and love for yourself and others
  • Feel more energised to step into your life fully or take a step forward towards your goals
  • Develop systemic awareness of generational trauma and how it affects the lineage
  • Connect to your emotions and desires

What happens during Family Constellations?

Family constellations can be facilitated in person or online, either in a group setting or one to one.

The experienced Facilitator will begin my asking the ‘Seeker’ or ‘issue holder’ questions to ascertain facts about their family of origin and to understand the issue they are wishing to look at.

The Facilitator will ask the ‘Seeker’ to choose people from the group to ‘represent’ their family members and place them on the floor in a ‘three-dimensional’ or ‘living map’ of their system.’

The Facilitator and Client will observe the constellation to understand the dynamics that are present and how they are influencing the Seeker’s issue.

The Facilitator will ask the representatives to report back and may invite them to move positions.

The Facilitator will make interventions e.g. ask representatives or the Seeker to say specific sentences or change position.

The Facilitator will show a way to solution (if present), help the Seeker to understand what was revealed in the Constellation and bring the Constellation to a close.

How this approach originated:

This work which was founded by German psychoanalyst, Bert Hellinger who developed this method after working for 16 years as a missionary for a Catholic order among the Zulus in South Africa.  There he was hugely influenced by group dynamics and went on to study and train in further studies such as Transactional Analysis and Neurolinguistic Programming.  Hellinger developed Family Constellations and now the method is used worldwide in many other areas such as health, conflict resolution, the legal system and in business.

About Family Constellations

Similar to the laws of the universe, every family is governed by laws which Hellinger has set out as principles called the ‘Orders of Love’. These systemic principles are ancient primal orders that work within us and around us.  When these orders are functioning well, love can flow, but when these orders are out of balance or tangled in any way, then the flow of love is interrupted and may get stuck.  The family system is always seeking to find way to balance.

The three basic Orders of Love are as follows:

Belonging

We are bound to our family by a deep need to belong.  Every member (dead, unborn, aborted or those for whatever reason are excluded) has an equal right to belong to the system.

Order

There is an order and a hierarchy in every family. Whoever comes first in the family is in first place and whoever comes after follow in order.

Balance

Every system has a point of equilibrium, a balance point where the system and those who belong feel most comfortable. Systems by and large prefer when there is a balance of giving and taking.

We begin to see that the whole world is exactly as we perceive it – change our perceptions and we change our world.
